Nine centuries ago, Marrakech was only an immense and arid plain. The invaders coming from Mauritania, Youssef-Ben-Tachfme then AH-Ben-Youssef, made it the “vast and aired” capital of an empire which extended from the Tafilalet to the Ebre and from the Atlantic to Algiers. To protect it from the mountain people’s incursions, a gigantic 5 m high and 2 m thick wall was built from June 1126 to february 1127 with
the collaboration of the population. This wall which emerged in such a short time was often altered.

It was pierced with enormous doors with bent passages which compete in beauty with those of Rabat. BAD-AGNAOU built in 1150 inspires the force as well as the one of the Oudai'as . It allowed the passage towards the almohade Kasbah and exposed the heads of rebels. On the contrary, the door BAB ER-ROBB with its 3 bends, played the role of control and defence of the Kasbah. From the door DEBBARH one can have an overall sight on the district of the tanners. The Almohades then the Saadiens enlarged the city and included many parks there.
